01 – Overview

Coachella: Beck

Role: Illustrator

Bot and Dolly was tasked with creating visuals for Beck’s concert at Coachella 2014. We created two directions. The first set shows 3D illustrations I created in C4D. The second set shows slow motion holi powder shot at a high frame rate and composited in After Effects.

02 – Direction 01

Scenes were broken into elements and fed into Touch Designer. Mountains, clouds and cacti appeared on the screen based on inputs by the band’s drum, guitar and bass tracks. The result was a generative landscape informed by the musician’s performance.

02 – Direction 02

For the second direction, slow motion clips of holi powder served as background video. We launched the powder into the air using slingshots and taut surfaces.

03 – Behind the Scenes

Below are some behind the scenes from filming the holi powder. We made a huge mess. It was tons of fun.
